AI search visibility · The core service

Be the answer, not just a listing.

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini each name two or three businesses when someone asks who to trust. We build the four signals that decide who those businesses are — and report your Answer Share every month.

Ten real prompts. Four AI platforms. Your market. No call required to get the results.

Asked: “Who are the best independent commercial insurance agencies in Tampa?”

For commercial coverage in the Tampa area, a few independent agencies come up consistently. Elite Business Insurance is an independent commercial agency operating since 2013 with a BBB A+ rating, writing general liability, workers compensation, commercial auto and commercial property…

Why this is a service, not a feature

Ranking on Google no longer tells you whether you're in the answer.

ChatGPT recommends roughly 1.2% of local business locations, against 35.9% Map Pack visibility for the same set of brands. AI answers are far more selective than Google was ever forced to be — there is only room for two or three names.

And the two lists barely overlap. Only about 45% of the businesses winning the Google local pack are named in AI answers at all. More than half of the firms that look like they’re winning are invisible in the conversation that now happens first.

The method

Four signals. One answer.

AI systems decide who to name using four things, in this order, because each one depends on the one before it. This is the entire service — nothing here is upsold separately.

Signal 01 — Identity

Do machines agree on who you are?

One canonical description of your business, deployed identically across Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Foursquare, Yelp, BBB, LinkedIn and your carrier or trade association listings.

  • Name, category, service lines and geography reconciled everywhere
  • NAP audit across 50+ directories, duplicates suppressed
  • Pushed to primary aggregators: Data Axle, Neustar Localeze, Foursquare

Signal 02 — Evidence

What do independent sources say?

Roughly 77% of what gets cited about a business is off-page. So most of the work is off-page: directory depth, reviews that name the service and the city, industry listings, association pages, licensing records.

  • Review acquisition with service-and-city specificity
  • Industry directory and association placement
  • Licensing and accreditation records surfaced consistently

Signal 03 — Extraction

Can an AI lift a clean answer off your page?

Questions as headings. Self-contained answers in 40 to 60 words. Named specifics instead of adjectives. The systems we've tested read visible text at fetch time, so the answer has to actually be on the page, in words.

  • Answer-shaped content: definitions, comparisons, named figures
  • Schema implemented as hygiene, not sold as a citation lever
  • Site speed and crawl access verified for AI crawlers

Signal 04 — Endorsement

Does anyone credible vouch for you?

Trade commentary, association content, expert quotes, original local research. The slowest signal and the strongest one — it's what separates the small number of businesses that get named from everyone else.

  • Digital PR aimed at sources AI platforms already trust
  • Podcast, interview and trade-press placement
  • Original research that earns its own citations

Off-page citation share: Omniscient Digital analysis of 23,000+ AI citations. Content extraction behaviour: searchVIU cross-platform fetch testing, 2026.

MeasurementMonthly Answer Share testing across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini, plus your Google local pack and organic performance — one report

What you get reported

Answer Share.

The share of a fixed, agreed prompt set where an AI platform names your business. One number, tracked monthly, per platform.

We agree forty prompts with you before we start, and we never change them mid-engagement to make a number look better. Every test is timestamped and screenshotted, and the raw evidence goes in the report.

When a competitor is named and you are not, we tell you which competitor and which platform. Losing is reported as clearly as winning — that’s the only way the number is worth anything.

Where we disagree with our own industry

Most agencies are selling you schema markup. The controlled test says it doesn't work.

We’d rather tell you this than sell it to you. It’s also a fair way to test any vendor you’re considering — ask them what the evidence says.

Commonly sold

Adding schema markup to your site increases how often AI tools cite you.

What the test found

Across 1,885 pages that added JSON-LD, matched against 4,000 control pages: no statistically significant uplift on ChatGPT or Google AI Mode, and a 4.6% decline in AI Overviews.

What we do instead

We implement schema as basic site hygiene and put the real effort into Signal 2 and Signal 4 — off-page evidence and earned authority, which is where the citations actually come from.
