Introduction — the client & their business

The client:

Salty Hooker Fishing Charters offers inshore and offshore fishing trips based in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, with journeys ranging from half-day to full-day, plus specialty trips (shark, sunset cruises).

Key offerings include:

  • ½-day (5 hours, ~20 miles offshore)
  • ¾-day (8 hours, ~35 miles)
  • Full day (10 hours, ~50 miles)
  • Gulf Stream trips (12 hours, 50–70 miles)
  • Shark trips, sunset cruises, specialty fishing excursions

Pre-project challenges:

  • The website had charm, but lacked strong conversion flows (booking, quotes) and clear service differentiation.
  • Local SEO visibility was under-optimized for “fishing charter Murrells Inlet,” “offshore fishing SC,” and related terms.
  • Image galleries and trip pages were media-heavy, causing performance drag.
  • Trust and social proof (reviews, captain credentials, trip photos) were present but not always emphasized where they would influence bookings.

The challenge

Conversion & User Journey Friction

  • Trip pages had lots of info but lacked consistent call-to-actions (e.g. “Book Now,” “Reserve Your Trip”) in prime spots.
  • The multi-trip options (half, full, gulf stream, shark) introduced decision fatigue; users needed clearer paths.
  • Booking or inquiry flows were not always seamless; friction in getting a quote, contacting, or scheduling could lose potential customers.

SEO & Visibility Weaknesses

  • The site did not fully leverage local / niche keywords like “offshore fishing Murrells Inlet,” “SC fishing charter,” or “Mahi fishing SC.”
  • Metadata, internal linking between trip pages, blog or content (if any), and schema markup were underdeveloped.

NextLab adopted a structured roadmap combining UX, content & SEO, performance optimization, and persuasive design.

The solution

Here’s what the redesigned Salty Hooker site should look and behave like:

Visual hero experience

Bold hero image/video of an angler/boat in action, overlaid with a compelling tagline (e.g. “Murrells Inlet’s Premier Fishing Charter”) and “Book Now” CTA.

Streamlined trip navigation & teasers

Trip listing page with cards showing duration, target species, price range, and “Book” button.
Teasers or comparison view so users can quickly scan which trip fits their interest.

Trust & social proof zones

Snippets of 5-star reviews or client quotes near the bottom or side of trip pages. Captain / crew bios, experience highlights, safety certifications.
Permit or license badges, insurance statements, or “100+ trips served” counters.

Performance & mobile enhancements

Speed-optimized images, lazy loading, minimal blocking scripts. Booking forms and trip browsing tailored for mobile ease.

Results & impact

With the redesign in place (and once analytics catch up), Salty Hooker could reasonably expect:

Increased booking conversions

More “Book Now” clicks converted into reservations or inquiries.

Higher engagement on trip pages

Users spend more time reading trip details, checking images, and exploring.

Improved search visibility

Ranking higher for key phrases like “fishing charter Murrells Inlet,” “offshore fishing SC,” “gulf stream trip SC.”

Better mobile metrics

Faster loading, lower bounce on mobile, improved Core Web Vitals.

Stronger trust & credibility

More confidence leads to more direct bookings (less hesitation).
